We move wraith-like through the abyss
Careful of the newly fallen angels
Over the horizon, we see the storm moves forward
Crushing whatever dreams we had of seeing the light again
Now the only light we see
is that of flames licking our feet
and what life is left in the angels
before they hit the concrete
The angel looked up at me and asked
“Why is everything dying?”
I told him:
“Everything is already dead?”
He then asked why we surround ourselves
with such grotesque displays
I told him:
“That’s how we know that our disease has spread”
It seems our beloved process of demonization
has turned its eye toward us
No longer certain of where the monster lay
though we look into the mirror
and stare back at it’s gaze
Through the heavy ash and smoke
the answer was too clear
Through all these years we cried out “Wolf!”
The wolf was always here
The angel looked up at me and asked
“Where did you go wrong?”
I told him:
“Everything was already gone?”
He then asked why we surround ourselves
with such grotesque displays
I told him:
“That’s how it’s been all along” |
