A child nurtured by stories of fantasy and splendour
Growing up with images of old tales and wonders in his heart
He spent not a single night without a lasting dream
He spent not a single day without walking under the trees
“Don’t go where the trees are dead and the devil dwells,
He’ll seize your heart if you see his grey eye”
Innocence faded in time, overcome with blinding fear
All fairy tales vanished and with them my youth
For I was that child that used to rejoice in nightly dreams
Now nearly all dreams are gone, all gone but one…
He’ll seize your heart if you see his grey eye”
Surrounded by lifeless trees with no sun in the sky
I found myself running in a vast field of silence
Impending night approaching above the heavy mist
In a second all turn red, then I wake up filled with dread
Sleep tight... and don’t be scared. It’s ok not to remember. Your brother is playing with angels now... just don’t go there again.
“Don’t walk the devil’s path, he laughs while children cry,
He will play with your head if you see his grey eye”
A warning right before bed my father used to say…
That warning right before bed my father used to say…
In hours of darkness vile words were spoken,
Was it a warning or was it a threat? |
