Outside the city
The sunset died away.
Mist is rising dripping out on my gown.
Across the flatlands
Where swamps absorbed the day
Ghostly lights through the night lead me down
The woods a little way.
Turn the pages of the foliage and admire
The book of misty night.
In the deep woods witches dance beside the fire.
I follow distant light.
Before I've walked on
I drop my pack and froze
At the edge of the depths luring me in.
Hidden by the starlight
Not far or not too close,
The old man who I will never be
Mourns for the boy I was.
