A zenekart 1990-ben alapította Steve Ramsey gitáros és Martin Walkyier énekes, szövegíró Angliában, Newcastle-ben. Tulajdonképpen a "folk metal", mint stílus úttörõi, megalkotói. A zene meglehetõsen változatos, a thrash metaltól a punk rockig mindenféle zenei stílus megjelenik náluk, egy azonban állandó, mégpedig a britt népzenei hatások. A klaszikus felállást egy hegedûs, George Biddle egészíti ki (1995-tõl, elõtte különbözõ hegedûsök tevékenykedtek náluk), aki igazán ízesen hozza a népies dallamokat, frázisokat. A hangszereik is elég változatosak, nem csak a rockzenében használatos tipikus hangszerek szólalnak meg náluk, hanem olyanok is, mint mandolin, furulya, zongora illetve más billentyûs hangszerek.

A szövegekrõl - bár nevezhetnénk verseknek is - Martin Walkyier gondoskodik, aki szófordulataival tulajdonképpen túltesz a költõk nagy részén. Témák tekintetében leginkább a társadalomkritika a meghatározó, de ez talán nem meglepõ egy olyan zenekartól, akik egy iparvárosban tevékenykednek.

A zenekar több, mint egy tucat nagylemezzel és számos kislemezzel a hátuk mögött máig nem tekinthetõ befutott zenekarnak, méltatlanul ismeretlenek.

Az alapító énekes, szövegíró Martin Walkyier 2001-ben távozott a zenekartól. Õ jelenleg a The Clan Destined (már maga a név is egy érdekes szófordulat) zenekarban tevékenykedik. Kiválása óta a gitáros Kevin Ridley vette át az énekesi posztot, és ezzel a felállással felvettek jópár régi nótát, és "No Daylights... Nor Heeltaps" címmel megjelentették. Ezzel tulajdonképpen elõrevetítették, hogy a zene is változni fog kicsit, jóval több akusztikus hangzert hansználnak. Ez talán jót is tett a zenének.
